Chapter 20 – The Resurrection of the Last Day
The Bible teaches there will
come a day when every person who has ever been born and received a soul
from God, will be resurrection on the Last Day. This group does not
include those whose bodies have already been translated into their
glorified bodies, such as those who are Raptured. In Daniel chapter 12,
we read about the resurrection of the Last day.
Daniel 12:1 "At that time Michael shall stand up, The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people; And there shall be a time of trouble, Such as never was since there was a nation, Even to that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, Everyone who is found written in the book. 2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, Some to shame and everlasting contempt. 3 Those who are wise shall shine Like the brightness of the firmament, And those who turn many to righteousness Like the stars forever and ever. 4 "But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase."
This is also when the 2 witnesses of Rev 11 are raised from the dead and Raptured into the clouds.
Rev 11:7-12 When they [the 2 witnesses] finish their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them. And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. Then those from the peoples, tribes, tongues, and nations will see their dead bodies three-and-a-half days, and not allow their dead bodies to be put into graves. And those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them, make merry, and send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth. Now after the three-and-a-half days the breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell on those who saw them. And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, "Come up here." And they ascended to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies saw them.
In John 6 Jesus tells us 4 times about the resurrection that will occur on the Last Day.
John 6:39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. Verse 40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that everyone who sees the Son, and believes on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. Verse 44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. Verse 54 Whoever eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
In John 5 we see that both the redeemed and the unsaved will be resurrected on the last day.
John 5:28-29 Do not be astonished at this; for the hour is coming when all who are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
When Jesus was going to resurrect Lazarus from the grave, he had the following conversation with John’s sister, Martha.
John 11:23-24 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
